I knew going in that this book would take me on an emotional roller coaster and that it would pull out all the feels from me, especially after reading the first few pages and getting that gut feeling that I knew what was coming, at least with that situation. What I didn’t expect, though I did hope for, was how emotionally invested I’d become in each of the characters and their journey, nor which character ended up being the one I connected with the most. I couldn’t put Dear Life down, in fact I had it open on the counter as I cooked dinner and am lucky I didn’t end up burning my dinner, because I was so invested and ended up staying up past my bedtime just to finish it.

I’m going to step away from my typical reviewing MO for this one because this is a book that you truly need to experience without bias in order to appreciate the impact of what Jace, Daisy, Hollyn and Carter go through. So what I will say is that the journey that each character goes on will touch your heart and maybe even your soul. You will find pieces that will sing to you because of your own experiences with love, loss, pain and the struggle to take the next step. There will be times that you will be irritated and frustrated with them and their choices, or lack thereof, but in the end you will celebrate their accomplishments and know that the rocky road they traversed was more than worth it in the end.

As for that character that I connected with the most, the one who I didn’t expect to connect with upon first meeting? That character was Daisy. Why is it a surprise? Because on the outside I saw her as my polar opposite in so many ways, but as the story progressed I found that what she was looking for was not all that different than what I am every day. As for the others, Carter and Jace are definitely on my book boyfriend list because they encompass everything I love about alpha males, even the bad stuff. And though Hollyn appears to be last in line, she isn’t. The strength she found within herself when she didn’t think she had any was a sight to see.

To say that this book was an experience is an understatement. I laughed. I cried. I wanted to toss my Kindle into the freezer because I was frustrated with the characters. There were a couple things I wished there had more of, but they are minor in the big scheme of things because I loved where everyone was at the end of the book and I highly recommend Dear Life because you never know what it has to offer if you only take a chance on it.

Dear Life edition by Meghan Quinn Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I really didn't realize so much what this book was going to be about, and going in ... I'll be honest - it is beautifully sad.

While this book is about 4 people and their lives, the book is told in parts and letters ... which isn't confusing at all. It is told in a way that keeps you interested and intrigued.

Hollyn was difficult to like. I felt bad for her and her grief that was so painful, she was hard to connect with. Maybe that is the meany pants in me - but she was holding herself back and making excuses.

Carter is mad at the world. At himself. At work. At his uncle and at Hollyn. He was also hard to like for the same reasons but I just knew he could pull his head out of his behind and figure it out if he stopped brooding for 2 seconds.

Jace. Once I realized where his story was going I knew that the author had put a little of herself in the book. Jace is a lovable teddy bear and his need to move on is so huge and clear and yet, as a reader I can't cheer for that. I can't hope he does. I can't.

Daisy was just a breath of fresh air. She was so darn cute and hilarious without trying. I wanted to be her friend. I wanted to hug her. I wanted to see her learn and grow.

The books characters get mixed and mingled. And love happens along with a journey for each one to get there.

They all get wrapped up with wonderful endings. It was sweet and real. I would have loved an epilogue...
I have been waiting for Dear Life to go live for a while now, and I could not wait to read it! I thought at first I would read a few chapters before I had to run some errands. Well, that was the plan at 2 this afternoon – it’s now 11pm and I am still sitting on my couch with mascara running down my cheeks and a stupid smile on my face.

Dear Life starts with us meeting the four main characters – Hollyn, Daisy, Jace and Carter. Each character starts out with what they are dealing with in this crazy thing we call life. Each and every story hooked me from the very beginning. I was tearing up by the end of the first chapter. The problems they are facing in their lives are real and heartbreakingly honest. They each start the Dear Life program to learn how to put the past behind them, to move on and to actually start living life. What they find in the program changes their lives forever.

This book is so well written - the stories flowed so well between the characters and their individual stories, to each couple to the group as a whole. You could feel the connection within the first couple of meetings. The growth and love that takes place with the four amazing souls is inspiring.

I have read other Meghan Quinn books before, and I truly enjoy her books. But with this book, she has put so much of her heart into, that mine breaks for not only the characters but for Mrs. Quinn as well. Her Dear Life letter is so touching that I cannot thank her enough for it!!
This book has truly touched me deep in my soul, so much so that I have to add a new New Year’s resolution to my list OWN YOU.
I think I would have liked this book better if everything hadn't been so tidily tied up at the end...it didn't feel true to life.

Regardless, the characters are great (if a bit stereotypical), the story line is entertaining (and I loved the way it was written...from countering POVs, including their letters), and I actually laughed out loud a few times, which is a great thing.

Bottom line, the story was just a little too perfectly wrapped up for me. All the problems are worked out, all the mean people become likable, and everybody lives happily ever after. Meh. Nevertheless, I still think it's worth reading and I plan to read this author's other works.
