Pepper Winters has once again surprised the readers with her latest release of Unseen Messages. She has stepped out of the dark world and created a completely different reading adventure. A reading adventure that once again kept me glued to the pages. The nicest thing about this latest release is that it was a stand alone book. There were no CLIFFHANGERS! I didn't close this book with knots in my stomach. I closed it with extreme satisfaction. I marveled at the reading experience. I was left with the thoughts...What If? Would I survive? I also marveled at the journey Pepper created for each of her characters.

I think most of us are intrigued with the idea of being stranded on a deserted island. We romanticize the theory in our heads, but the reality of it is brutal. Would any of us be able to survive without our cell phones? Could we live without the comfort of air conditioning, electricity, and automobiles? Could we forage for food rather than going to the frig or going through a fast food drive through. Then think about hot showers, soap, deodorant , toothpaste, and body lotion. Could we survive without pain killers, bandaids, sunscreen, or antiseptics? A mere scratch could be deadly in a primitive world.

A group of travelers anxious to get to their destinations fall into the hands of fate. A family eager to reconnect on their long awaited vacation, a young man desperate to begin his penance and redemption, a young woman desperately seeking peace and quiet, and an experienced pilot taking his passengers to their dream destination. Fate intervenes. The helicopter crashes. Lives are lost. Some survive but the cost is high. Now the survivors must learn how to survive in a primitive, untouched world. None of the survivors have the proper skills to exist in a hostile environment.

Pepper Winters did a phenomenal job writing this story. It was very realistic and heart breaking. She didn't romanticize the harsh realities of her characters lives. She didn't give them the kind of happily ever after we would expect. She gave them new lives that were molded by their time on an island.

This is a true love story in many ways. Four people bonded with their complete hearts. The survivors had a new perception of love, life, and happiness.

I like a long book but there's long and there's long, plodding and navel-gazing annoying characters. I own just about all of Pepper's books and have enjoyed most of them but this one, despite having the most obviously rich story potential, has the very thinnest actual story flesh and the most useless page time (75%?) in the headspace of two kind of annoying people. I'm not sure I'd want to be stranded with either of them, most definitely not G. The kids were pretty much the saving grace for the sections they were in.

That was the oddest, fantastical (albeit telegraphed) ending. They ended up with nearly everything they tried to avoid. Why not just, oh I don't know, move?

Coconut? I died. No really, I think I died because it had to have been a bad dream if that happened.

Thank goodness no episiotomy was needed, I guess. Who tied the cord? Babies don't exactly thrive on fish, leaves and coconut and Estelle wasn't thriving so she wasn't flush with healthy breast milk. My head hurts.

OMG what an amazing story this is. I don't have right words to describe to you how beautiful, heart wrenching, emotional this book is. It is a story about four crash survivors on the deserted island. It is also a love story but main focus is survival. These four people went through anything you could possible imagine that could happened on the deserted island and then some more. Hurt, hunger, healing, temptation, death, basic survival skills, but also happy moments, love, bonding and many, many more emotions and things that happened to them.
Book really makes you think about life and what is the most important thing to you, what is most important for survival in any situation. What can you change, what can you do if you have a choice, can you change your life or should you just "go with it"?
It really puts life and everyday things in very different perspective. I love this book. It is wonderfully written. Pepper nailed it, you can feel that she put her heart and soul into this book and that makes it that much more perfect.
I honestly don't know what else to talk you because words can't describe how great this book is.
So just go ahead, one click it, relax, dive in and be ready to rethink your life after you finished.
More than anything, enjoy it! Because you won't be able to put it down.

Second, this book blew me away. Completely. Pepper snatched my heart from my chest, played with it, stomped on it a bit, shoved it back in and nursed it back to health. In other words, I felt it. Every. Single. Word.

It was not the typical dark read from Pepper. It was a beautiful, moving, angst-filled, powerful roller coaster of a ride. Pepper created soul-mates, bound together through every cursed and hopeful situation imaginable. At one point, I was a blubbering, crying mess because I was deeply invested in the characters of Estelle and Galloway. My couch was littered with tissues and my eyes were blurry as I raced to the end of their story. And it was worth every single tear I shed for them.

Having said that, it WAS a typical Pepper Winters book. The story was full of vivid emotions, slowly revealed secrets, passionate physical attractions, loving intimacy, dark foreboding, uncontrollable destiny and an all-consuming love between a man and woman. It was a phenomenal love story that stayed with me long after I finished the book.

Unseen Messages now sits on my Ultimate Book List reserved only for books that evoke the deepest of feelings. If I could give it SIX STARS, I would!
