I liked this story. The heroine is a widow at 42, sort of a merry widow since she came out of a bad marriage. The husband being 12+ years older than her and I think he used criticism and belittling to keep her from leaving. No one else would want her was his mantra. However, he has a heart attack and leaves her a wealthy widow. So, she is starting the next phase of her life. She was never allowed to have the children she wanted and at 42 figures that ship has sailed. The hero at this time is 33. he is the owner of a local vineyard and quite wealthy as well as good looking and smart. He had been engaged but caught his fiancée cheating and then realized how she used and manipulated him so he carries a few battle scars. The heroine is also a very successful writer. She has decided to restore an ole pub and inn that her husband was determined to destroy. The hero's family had owned the Inn for hundreds of years but lost it when debt because an issue and they had to sell. they want it back.So these two work through some issues to get their HEA. I really liked the story. Loved the hero. I thought he was a great guy and could understand his being hurt by his ex and being just a bit afraid to take the leap of faith with another woman especially one 9 years older. But this author made it work. I felt good about these two at the end and could see it happening. My daughter is 9 years older than her husband and it works great, so I know it is possible. Good story, entertaining read and I definitely recommend it.
I did read some of the 2 star reviews and I wondered if we read the same book. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I just didn't see what they were talking about. I really enjoyed the story.

She's a widow of 42 opening a B&B; he's a vineyard owner and 9 years younger. An easy, pleasant read. There were some added aspects to this story, beyond the age difference. For starters, is the B&B haunted? Held my interest throughout. Nicely paced. I liked the main characters and their interactions.
This author is very talented, and while I'm a fan of romance novels, I think her talents are being wasted in contemporary romance. Lucky for us though, because this is a truly well written novel, with likable characters that can easily be related to. The book is also a refreshing departure from the 20 something heroines that most romance novels like to portray. I look forward to reading her other books with my own glass of wine in hand.
WINE & ROSES is a light paranormal story about a widow determined to live an independent life after spending twenty-years in a loveless marriage. But her attraction to Jason, a man nine years younger than she is, takes her by surprise, as much as the strange things happening in the old inn she's just restored. I enjoyed the mix of emotion and humor, and the character of Abby who's trying to hide her inner insecurities and gives in to her second chance at passion. Jason is a fantastic hero, charming and generous. The author transports us into a lovely setting of wineries and old inns with her smooth writing.
After the death of her cold husband, Abby is in the process of rebuilding her life while renovating an historic inn. When Jason walks in, hoping to acquire the property, sparks that had existed between the two at a previous meeting are instantly rekindled. But it'll take the meddling of the inn's ghost to get these two people, battered by betrayal, to learn to trust...and love...again. A heartwarming romance that will make you believe in love through the ages!
During the latter part of each month, I haunt the Newbie/freebie spectrum at /...Much to my delight I found this gem, Wine and Roses. by Ms Hughes. It proved to be an easy-reading romance with a little supernatural mixed in. I like happy endings, this story satisfied!
A little short, a little uncomplicated, yet truly satisfying.
I'm also delighted that there were fewer than normal typos for this price range, editing and formatting were excellent, adding up with the good writing to an excellent kindle experience.
This was a fun read for me. As an avid fan of romance novels, I do get a bit tired of the tried and true formula and I loved that the author stepped outside the box. I seem without fail to find myself in relationships with younger men (I am just young at heart, I guess) and it is nice to read a book that embraces the idea that it is possible and can work.
The story was also well written and did a great job of creating the sexual tension between the main characters - although a bit more detail in the love scene would have been appreciated, it is a romance. ) Still, left me feeling happy and took me out of the real world for a few hours.

I loved this story! The author does a great job painting a picture. Descriptions and character development are perfect! Not too much, but just enough. The story is entertaining. I like that the main character is a little "older" and there's an age gap with her romantic interest. It's very refreshing. The book is quick, easy reading, but not too simple. I also liked the paranormal aspect. It's not too much, but enough to make it different and entertaining. Really great writing too. I'm a stickler for grammatical and typographical errors and found very few, if any, in this book. Very well done!!! ) It was a pleasure to read, I didn't want it to end!
